This was stressful, and I kept putting it off. My (my mum's) mini-van had broken down on me a few times but I was determined that it would last me a few more years even though my mechanic told me its time to buy a new car.
I have an emotional attachment to my van. It has been in the family for years: taken us on vacations, road trips, my first car and I brought Lola home in that car when she was a baby. It was reliable.
I did my research and kept my eye out to know when I was getting a deal or when I was getting ripped off.
However, I put this off for months. I went to a dealership to see the Toyota Rav4 and the sales person was the worst - he did not listen to anything I said or wanted, recommended random cars after knowing my wants, he clearly just wanted the sale. SO I left because I did not one feel comfortable with him, his knowledge and I did not want to give him the sale.
SO I waited another month...my mum was nagging me to go finally we went. I did not intent on buying a car that day. We went in with the plan to just look and test drive. I looked around saw a brown young man with a sleeve of tattoos approached him because for some reason I felt like I could trust him ( i think it was because of the tattoos).
We got straight to the point I told him what I wanted, what was a need, what would be nice to have but was not a must and what I did not want under no circumstance . It is important to know these things going in so the sales person can narrow down there inventory and you are not wasting anyone time. He was really good in respecting my wants, knew all the answers to questions I asked, gave real advice, I got a great vibe from him. He even said do not lease that is were car dealers make their money. We narrowed down two cars I wanted to drive : hyundai sonata fe and some kia (clearly I do not remember the model). I drove the hyundai sonata fe and had such a good vibe ( yes, I follow my instinct and vibe) the car report was also very good. It was a 2016, dark grey, front and back seat cooling and warming, heating, air conditioning, GPS, rear view camera, leather seats and it came with winter tires and car mates. The bonus was that it looked sooo clean ! They were also offering a end of month promo from $3,600 to $1600 for 10 years a rust proof and interior warranty.
Me and my mum loved the hyundai sonata fe and wanted it. She convinced me to try to drive the kia. Our sales rep said we wouldn't like it as much, and he was right he laughed at our expressions when we saw the kia and said I told you so. I drove it for 10 min and said f it I want the hyundai sonata fe.
SO WE WORKED OUT A DEAL AND I GOT A NEW SUV!
It was a quick process our sales rep was great walked us through it, and the financial assistant was great in giving us options - they did not pressure us, took their time which made it a better experience then my last.
SIDE NOTE: 10 min into meeting my sales rep , that I picked. I looked up at him mid conversation and relized that he LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE MY EX! My mum talked about that in the car ride home LOL.
It was great talking to him though, he said the one thing he learned at this job is never to judge people who walk through the door. Some people look like they have money :fancy cars, clothing but like to waste your time. Peoples appearance dont depict what they have or who they are.
All in all, I am happy to have gotten that over with but still sad about my mini van.
